Spanish governor Felipe de Neve is the founder of Los Angeles. He began to divide California into cities called pueblos. L.A. as we know it today is one of those first established pueblos. History tells us that it was named after Mary the queen of angels which later evolved into a shorter name Los Angeles.
Towards the dawn of the new century Mexico gained control over L.A. when it gained independence from Spain. Yet the war against America broke out soon after. because mexico was unable to defend its northern territories it lost Los Angeles to the whites.
